IMD Issues Rain Alert for 13 States and UTs, Winds May Reach 60 Kmph
The IMD has issued a rain alert for 13 states and Union Territories, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall and winds of 40–60 kmph. Maharashtra, southern India and the Northeast are among the regions facing changing weather conditions.
According to the IMD forecast, rainfall is likely across southern India, including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Maharashtra, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and the northeastern states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura have also been placed under a rain alert. Some areas may experience an increase in rainfall intensity.
While several parts of the country continue to experience rainy conditions, changes in the weather are becoming noticeable in the hilly states. Temperatures are falling in higher-altitude regions, signalling the onset of colder conditions. However, rainfall continues to pose a risk of landslides in some mountainous areas. People travelling along roads in hilly terrain have been advised to remain alert and exercise caution.
The IMD has also issued a precautionary warning for fishermen operating along the coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep, taking into account sea conditions and wave activity. Wind speeds over the sea may increase, potentially making conditions unfavourable. Fishermen have been advised to check weather advisories before venturing into the sea.
With rain expected across multiple regions, falling temperatures in higher-altitude areas and potentially adverse marine conditions along parts of the coast, residents, road travellers and fishermen have been urged to remain vigilant and follow weather-related advisories.
